ACCIÓN DEL DEBILITAMIENTO DE LOS OBLICUOS SOBRE LOS SÍNDROMES ALFABÉTICOS

RESUMEN

Presentamos los resultados obtenidos en el tratamiento quirúrgico de los síndromes alfabéticos cuando van acompañados de una alteración en la motilidad de los músculos oblicuos. Hemos seleccionado 139 historias clínicas, en las cuales se había practicado algún tipo de técnica quirúrgica sobre la musculatura oblicua. De éstas sólo hemos estudiado las 84 historias de estrabismos horizontales (exo o endo) que presentaban incomitancias verticales, es decir, aumento o disminución del ángulo horizontal en infra o supravisión, lo cual nos confirma un síndrome alfabético. Nuestro interés radica en estudiar la eficacia de las diferentes técnicas quirúrgicas aplicadas no sólo en la corrección del síndrome alfabético, sino también sus efectos sobre la función muscular. Los pacientes han sido evaluados siguiendo las mismas pautas de exploración pre y postquirúrgicas durante un período mínimo de un año.

EFFECT OF THE OBLIQUE MUSCLES DEBILITATION ON THE ALPHABETIC SYNDROMES

SUMMARY

The following reports on the results obtained in the surgical treatment of alphabetic syndrome when this is accompained by an alteration in the motility of the oblique muscles.

From our ophthalmologic file we selected 139 case histories of patients who had undergone surgery on the oblique muscles. Out of this number we selected for our study 84 cases of horizontal strabismus (exo or endo). This sample presented vertical incomitances, that is, an increase or decrease of the horizontal angle, in underaction or overation, which constitutes alphabetic syndrome.

Our object has been to assess the efficacy of different surgical techniques applied in the correction of alphabetic syndrome and to study the effects of such techniques on muscular function.

Patiens were evaluated following a standard procedure of medical examination before and after surgery over a minimum period of one year.
