ESTUDIO ANALÍTICO DE LA PRIMERA CONSULTA DE ESTRABOLOGÍA DEL HOSPITAL «NIÑO JESÚS». AÑO 1994

RESUMEN

Hemos estudiado 1.151 pacientes vistos por primera vez en la consulta de estrabología durante 1994. Observamos un diagnóstico cada vez más precoz de la patología estrabológica, así como de la ambliopía. Encontramos un notable incremento del número de consultas por patología no estrabológica remitida a un servicio especializado del tercer nivel sanitario y que supone un 48,5% del total de pacientes atendidos y representando los pseudoestrabismos un 70% del total de esas consultas. Las endotropías constituyen, con mucho, el tipo de estrabismo más frecuente (70%), suponiendo las exotropías un 23,5%. La edad media de presentación fue de 3,6 años para endotropías y de 5 años en el caso de exotropías. No hemos encontrado diferencias significativas en cuanto al sexo.

SURVEY OF THE FIRST CONSULTATION AT THE STRABOLOGY SERVICE OF THE HOSPITAL «NIÑO JESÚS» DURING 1994

SUMMARY

A survey of diagnosis stablished in 1.151 patients studied for the first time during 1994 was done. We found that diagnosis of strabismus and amblyopia is made sooner. A remarkable increase in the number of patients without strabismus pathology (48,5%) refered to a third level assistance center was found. Pseudostrabismus was responsable for about 70% of all these cases. Diagnosis in patients with strabismus was esotropia in 70% and exotropia in 23,5%. The average age of onset was 3,6 years and 5 years respectively. No sex predominance was found.
