HISTORY

    

This Society, dating from 1982, was the first society to be founded on tear and lachrymal diseases. It has held periodical triennial congresses (Lubbock, TX 1984, Budapest 1987, Amsterdam 1990, Madrid 1993, Stockholm 1996, Jerusalem 1999, New Orleans 2002). Its next congress will take place in Madrid, from April 1st to April 3rd 2005.

The International Society of Dacryology and Dry Eye is a scientific society for the research and diffusion of knowledge in the lachrymal domain and its main topics are basic research on tear and ocular surface, medical application and lachrymal surgery. It also accepts contributions in psychology, phylogeny, ontogeny, zoology, arts, history and any topics related with tears. The Society also includes a division for the membership of patients with dry eye or any other dacryological diseases. This membership includes courses for patients who may eventually contribute with their experience and collaboration to the Society.
