Objetivos: Valorar el astigmatismo inducido por una incisión de 3,5 mm tras la cirugía de cataratas.
Métodos: Se estudian 300 pacientes intervenidos de cataratas con facoemulsificación, incisión de 3,5 mm e implante de lente plegable de silicona. Realizamos 3 grupos de 100 enfermos cada uno, con un período de seguimiento de 12 semanas, practicando controles a la semana, a las cuatro semanas y a las doce semanas:
* Grupo A: Sin sutura. * Grupo B: Punto en U. * Grupo C: Punto simple.
El astigmatismo resultante se cuantifica por 4 métodos:
1. Astigmatismo neto. 2. Sustracción simple. 3. Método de Cravy. 4. Método de Jaffe.
Resultados: La agudeza visual corregida a los 7 días fue superior en el 82,5% de los casos a 0,5.
El astigmatismo inducido (Jaffe) a las 12 semanas fue:
* Grupo A: 0,96 ± 0,71. * Grupo B: 0,86 ± 0,76. * Grupo C: 1,02 ± 0,68.
Conclusiones: 1. No hay diferencias estadísticas entre el astigmatismo inducido y el preoperatorio. 2. Se produce una rehabilitación visual precoz. 3. El astigmatismo inducido es estable ya desde la primera semana tras la cirugía.

Objective: To evaluate the induced astigmatism after cataract surgery making a 3.5 mm incision.
Material and Method: We study 300 patients after cataract surgery with phacoemulsification. 3.5 mm incision and rondables IOL implantation. We divided the patients in 3 groups, each one containing 100 patients; time of evolution control was 12 weeks and we performed controls after 1, 4 and 12 weeks.
* Group A: No suture. * Group B: Horizontal suture. * Group C: Radial simple suture.
The evaluation of resultant astigmatism is based on four methods:
1. Total astigmatism. 2. Substraction astigmatism. 3. Cravy method. 4. Jaffe method.
Results: The visual acuity, evaluated after an evolution of one week is > 0.5 in 82.5% of the cases. The induced astigmatism (Jaffe), after 12 weeks, is:
* Group A: 0,96 ± 0,71. * Group B: 0,86 ± 0,76. * Group C:1,02 ± 0,68.
Conclusions: There isn't any significative statistic differences betwen induced astigmatism and preoperative astigmatism and preoperative astigmatism. A early visual acuity rehabilitation is produced. The postoperative induced astigmatism is estable after evolution of one week.
